Actress Yoon Jung Hee Passes Away at 78 MGG

Actress Yoon Jung Hee passed away in Paris, France on January 19.

It was revealed on January 19 that Yoon Jung Hee died at the age of 78. She was staying in Paris, France with her family since she retired from the industry. Before passing away, it was known that Yoon Jung Hee was dealing with Alzheimer’s disease. 

Yoon Jung Hee is considered one of the most popular Korean film actresses during the 1960s to 1980s. Her last project before retiring was the award-winning 2010 movie “Poetry” directed by  Lee Chang Dong and  Lee Jong Eon. She worked alongside David Lee, Kim Hee Ra, Ahn Nae Sang, Park Myung Shin, and Kim Jong Goo.

This film earned her multiple awards such as Blue Dragon Film Award and Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award for Best Actress.

Yoon Jung Hee was born in Busan in 1944. She began her acting career after auditioning while still studying at Chosun University. She made her acting debut in 1967 through the film “Sorrowful Youth.” She quickly rose to stardom after winning several awards in different award-giving bodies. After a year, she also received another Rookie of the Year award at the Baeksang Arts Awards  for the film “Mist.” 

The actress appeared in many different works, starring in a total of 280 films since her debut. Yoon Jung Hee is known for being part of the films “Divine Bow,” “The Isle of Shiro,” and “Two Flags.” In 2010, after “Poetry,” the actress decided to retire from her prominent acting career.

Yoon Jung Hee studied in France in 1973 and got her master’s degree in film from the Third University of Paris. She married her husband Baek Kun Woo who is a known pianist.

The actress also became a judge at different film festivals including Montreal Film Festival in 1995, the 12th Mumbai Film Festival in 2010, the 17th Dinar Film Festival Judge, and the Blue Dragon Film Awards Judge in 2006.
