Goong (Princess Hours) fans will have to wait a little bit more for the remake.

On February 14, the production company in charge of the upcoming k-drama revealed that the Goong (also known as Princess Hours) remake is still in the planning stages. They already began holding auditions for the casting and according to them, the remake is aiming to start its production in the second half of 2023 and it will premiere in 2024. There are no confirmed casts yet.

The classic romantic comedy which aired in 2006, is in talks for a remake. It was first revealed in March 2021 that Jae Dam Media signed a contract with Group 8 for the remake of the original manhwa. However, the plans were halted due to COVID-19.

An official from the production company Group Eight reported, “Currently, the remake of ‘Goong’ is in the planning stage. There are many works in production, so it is difficult to produce the drama this year, so it is likely to be produced next year at the earliest. However, there are many variables to consider”.

With the news of the remake roaming around, netizens are giving their suggestions for the candidates who can best fit the roles of the characters.

Netizens suggest Park Bo Gum for the role of Lee Shin (previously played by Joo Ji Hoon) and Kim Yoo Jung for Shin Chae Kyung (originally played by Yoon Eun Hye). They also suggested Lee Do Hyun for the role of Lee Yul (played by Kim Jeong Hoon) and Go Youn Jung for Min Hyo Rin (played by Song Ji Hyo)

Goong takes place in an alternate 21st-century Korea which is ruled by the monarchy government. It tells the story of a high school girl Shin Chae Kyung and Crown Prince Lee Shin. Chae Kyung is a commoner hailing from an ordinary family. One day, she receives startling news that she must marry the Crown Prince (also her schoolmate) to whom she was betrothed decades ago by her grandfather.

Considering the adverse situations of her debt-ridden family, she reluctantly agrees to the proposal only to find the struggles of living as a royal waiting for her.

Goong was a 24-episode K-drama that aired from November 1 to March 30 in 2006. The drama’s premiere rating was 16.2%. And it went on to achieve a staggering viewership of 28.3% for its finale. Not to forget, the rom-com also went on to win accolades like the Best Art Director Award (Min Eon Ok) at the 1st Seoul International Drama Awards, Best New Actor Award (Joo Ji Hoon), and Best New Actress (Yoon Eun Hye)Award at the 2006 MBC Drama Awards.
