Choi Won Young and iKON’s June are both in talks to join the upcoming romance fantasy K-drama Sparkling Watermelon.
On March 7, it was reported by multiple news outlets that Choi Won Young and June will be added to the cast of the upcoming K-drama Sparkling Watermelon. According to reports the two are already in the final stages of communication with the production team.
The upcoming K-drama will be led by Ryeoun, Choi Hyun Wook, Yoo Joon Sang, Seol In Ah, and Shin Eun Soo.
Sparkling Watermelon will narrate the life of a boy who is living a double life between a model student and a band member. He will experience a time slip and will meet his 18-year-old father. There he will build friendships and fall in love with a mysterious girl.
The new K-drama will be helmed by director Son Jung Hyun (Mental Coach Jegal, Should We Kiss First?, and All About My Romance) and writer Jin Soo Wan (Chicago Typewriter, Kill Me, Heal Me, and Moon Embracing the Sun).
Sparkling Watermelon will reportedly premiere within the year.
This will be the second upcoming K-drama of June for the year. The actor is set to officially debut as an actor in the upcoming series Bo Ra! Deborah with Yoo In Na, Yoon Hyun Min, Joo Sang Wook, Girls Day’s Park So Jin, and 2 PM’s Hwang Chan Sung. He will also join the upcoming movie Even If I Die, I Do Once Again led by Cho Byeong Kyu and Han Seo Joon.
June and his group iKON recently moved agencies from YG Entertainment to 143 Entertainment. Aside from idol activities, June will also be active in acting and other individual projects.
Meanwhile, this will be the first K-drama of Choi Won Young for the year. Last year, the actor became part of the K-dramas The Golden Spoon and Under the Queen’s Umbrella.
Aside from Sparkling Watermelon, Choi Won Young will also join the upcoming films Past Lives and The Land of Happiness.
Choi Won Young is currently starring in the entertainment program Europe Outside Your Tent: Spain together with Jo Jin Woong, Kwon Yool, and Park Myung Hoon.
