Manuela regrets not having followed Garibaldi. Estevão tells Rosário that he’ll have to disappear because the ranch is full of Farroupilhas. Mariana and Corte Real hear Rosário talking to Estevão and think she’s talking to herself. Bento Gonçalves tries to convince Bento Manuel to return to his army.
Padre Cordeiro throws Anita and Garibaldi out of the church. Paulo is buried. Texeira Nunes tells Pedro that his father died. Ana Joaquina assures Manuela that she was very happy, despite her arranged marriage. Maria decides to send Rosário to a convent, believing that she’s crazy, but Bento Gonçalves stops her.
Perpétua confesses to Caetana that she loves Inácio. Tereza finds a drawing Inácio did of Perpétua and realizes that he loves her. Rosário asks Estevão to prove to the others that he’s alive. Anita asks Garibaldi if he forgot Manuela.
Tereza tells Perpétua that she knows everything. Manuela asks Chico Mascate to take her to Laguna.
