tvN piques interest in the rest of their 2023 drama lineup
by missvictrix
Taking a page out of the book of ye olde Netflix, tvN has recently released a nice sizzle reel of sorts to get us pumped for the rest of their drama lineup. And yeah, it totally worked because the only thing I like more than a fun list of upcoming dramas is a fun and organized list of upcoming dramas.
So, here are the highlights, followed by the video and all its sneak peeks.
June 2023
See You in My 19th Life
Coming just around the bend in one week’s time on June 17, this drama and its massive buzz need no introduction. The entire dramaverse awaits the arrival of Shin Hye-sun as our enigmatic and reincarnating heroine, who meets up with her fated past-life love Ahn Bo-hyun.
If you need a refresher, check out the drama’s ultra-glossy and mysterious promos here.
July 2023
My Lovely Liar
Possibly my most anticipated drama on the list, My Lovely Liar has a super ~cool~ cast of Kim So-hyun, Hwang Min-hyun, Seo Ji-hoon, Yoon Ji-on, and more. Telling the story of a heroine who’s a human lie detector and the traumatized hero she comes in contact with — in addition to a lot of other fun tropey elements — this premise gets my K-drama antennae all excited. Promos have only just begun, but you can check out the first poster here for a quick vibe check.
The drama airs starting July 24 in tvN’s Monday-Tuesday slot.
July 2023
The Uncanny Counter 2
The fabulous fighting team of Jo Byung-kyu, Yoo Joon-sang, Kim Se-jung, and Yeom Hye-ran are back reprising their roles in The Uncanny Counter 2: Counter Punch, and the only thing better than that is the fact that Kang Ki-young, Jin Seon-gyu, and Yoo In-soo are joining them this time. You can check out the wavy-haired script reading stills here while you wait.
The Uncanny Counter 2 takes the Saturday-Sunday slot after See You in My 19th Life concludes.
September 2023
Sparkling Watermelon
Cute fantasy-music drama alert! They had me at Seol In-ah, but also leading the way are “hot newcomers” (not my phrase) Ryeoun, Choi Hyun-wook, and Shin Eun-soo. This drama sounds like it could be the next great youth drama brimming with heart and music and magic. Or, you know, another head-scratcher like The Heavenly Idol. Read more about the premise here.
Sparkling Watermelon will air in the Monday-Tuesday slot after My Lovely Liar concludes.
September 2023
Aramun’s Sword (a.k.a. Arthdal Chronicles 2)
Yeah, so they weren’t kidding about a second season for this drama, so come September, we will reenter this fantasy world, except this time Song Joong-ki and Kim Ji-won knew better were replaced in their roles by Lee Jun-ki and Shin Se-kyung. Returning from Season 1, however, are Jang Dong-gun and Kim Ok-bin. Will a new director make a difference?
Arthdal 2 takes the Saturday-Sunday slot after The Uncanny Counter 2 concludes.
October 2023
Desert Island Diva
I take it back — this one might be my most anticipated drama on the list. Come October, we’ll get to enjoy Park “Daesang Winner” Eun-bin as a wannabe idol singer. After coming back into civilization after 15 years on a deserted island (!), she moves in with the famous female vocalist whose songs gave her hope. While she was stranded. For 15 years. All alone. And survived. And because that sounds just about as weird as it gets for a K-drama rom-com setup, I am ready! Also starring Kim Hyo-jin, the steal-your-heart Chae Jong-hyeop, Cha Hak-yeon, and Kim Joo-hun, this sounds like the smash hit of 2023 in the making. And I’m gonna hold them to that.
Desert Island Diva takes the Saturday-Sunday slot after Arthdal 2 concludes.
