Disney+’s ensemble superhero drama Moving starts promotions

If you had a superpower, would you use it or hide it? Disney+’s upcoming drama Moving has just released its first teaser, hinting at the extraordinary feats to come. Adapted from the webtoon of the same name, the fantasy sci-fi centers around three high school students who inherited superpowers from their parents.

The teaser opens on a seemingly normal scene of our young protagonist Kim Bong-seok, played by Lee Jung-ha (Nevertheless), soundly asleep. Then as the camera pans out, we realize that he isn’t sleeping on the floor, but the ceiling. Born with the ability to fly, Bong-seok can not only levitate, but also soar through the air. His buddy Lee Kang-hoon — played by Kim Do-hoon (The Law Cafe) — also has his fair share of extraordinary abilities, but he’s careful to keep them concealed from the prying eyes of others.

Of our main trio, the two boys aren’t as enthused about their preternatural peculiarities. If most people don’t have such enhancements, doesn’t that make them abnormal? However, Jang Hee-soo — played by Go Yoon-jung (Alchemy of Souls) — begs to differ. In the face of the boys’ doubts, Hee-soo remains self-assured. They’re not strange, she says, reassuring them. “You’re just a little different. You’ll be special.”

To their parents, though, the safety of their precious children comes first. That means keeping their superhuman aptitude under wraps — they won’t let their children suffer through the same painful experiences they had to endure in the past. Chungmuro veteran Ryu Seung-ryong (Kingdom) headlines as Hee-soo’s father Jang Joo-won, who’s plenty imposing just from his aura alone. Lacking the ability to feel pain, his exceptional regeneration rate allows him to heal at unmatched speeds.

Meanwhile, Han Hyo-joo (Happiness) plays Bong-seok’s mother Lee Mi-hyun, whose acute senses make her highly perceptive towards any external stimuli. Last but not least, to round out our parental trio, we have Jo In-sung (It’s Okay, That’s Love) as Bong-seok’s father Kim Doo-shik, who can take to the air just like his son. We aren’t introduced to Kang-hoon’s parents yet, which makes me suspect a sad backstory — I suppose that means Kim Do-hoon is going to make me cry once again, isn’t he?

To keep things unpredictable for the webtoon’s loyal readers, we’ll also be getting some new characters exclusive to the drama adaptation. There’s the electricity-wielding Jeon Gye-do, played by Cha Tae-hyun (Brain Works). Then there’s the enigmatic Frank, played by Ryu Seung-bum (Tazza), whose mission is to hunt down those who possess superpowers.

Apart from the cast members listed so far, we also have an impressive supporting lineup — Kim Sung-kyun (Divorce Attorney Shin), Kim Hee-won (Unlocked), Moon Sung-geun (Mental Coach Jegal), Park Hee-soon (Trolley), Yang Dong-geun (The Forbidden Marriage), Park Byung-eun (Eve), and Kim Shin-rok (Reborn Rich). If nothing else, this project certainly struck gold with their casting.

Directed by Park In-je (Kingdom 2) and Park Yoon-seo, with scripts written by the original webtoon author Kangfull, the 20-episode drama Moving is slated for an August 9 premiere.
