Live Your Own Life: Episodes 8-9 (Drama Highlights)

What’s a weekend drama without the drama? This week’s episodes were quite over the top with screaming matches, hysterical dramatics, punches flying left and right, frustrated drunks acting out — you name it!

Tae-min’s dad, Chairman KANG JIN-BUM (Kim Kyu-cheol) returns home after his stint at the shoeshine shop, and he feels like a brand new character with the actor change. I actually did a double take when he got all violent with the golf club! But Chairman Kang soon returns to status quo, and he reveals his role in Halmeoni’s confinement to Tae-min — who continues to be one of the most interesting characters on the show. Tae-min is stuck between his good conscience and his family’s crazy and power-drunk antics. But not for long. Not with his father’s desperate plea for him to find Halmeoni before she does anything rash, so that they can survive in the company. And definitely not with Sook-hyang’s minion in his ear. Tae-ho also finds out where Halmeoni was confined and it’s bad enough that he doesn’t get to see her because she escaped. But it gets worse when Sook-hyang and her minion bring Tae-min onboard in the towing away of Tae-oh’s dead parents’ car. And this changes everything about the already-precarious relationship between the cousins.

As for the Lee family, we learn that Hyo-shim was a promising athlete, but she had to give up on her Olympics dream to shoulder familial responsibilities. Perhaps, she might not have had to do that if Mom wasn’t so fixated on her runaway husband — to the point of practically ignoring everything and everyone else. Tsk. Hyo-sung continues to get kicked around at work and at home. But he can understand his wife’s frustration stemming from having to give up her job at Taesan Group’s planning department (!) after having their kids. Hyo-do and Tae-hee also continue being a match made in immaturity heaven. As for our study unit couple-to-be, Hyo-joon’s exam prep is not going as smoothly as he’d like, and it must take special skill to be as terrible at acting as aspiring actress JUNG MI-RIM (Nam Bo-ra). In the meantime, I’m loving the cat and dog relationship between Halmeoni and Hoarder Granny at Uicheon Villa. I just have a feeling those two will end up as besties — if Hoarder Granny doesn’t start a pandemic of her own first.
