Beanies (aka DB Wooga Squad)
We have noticed spam accounts are trying the PPL approach to sneak in under the radar but we beanies cannot be fooled due to our years of experience of Subway and Kopiko mini ads intruding on our dramas.
If you come accross a comment from one of these bot accounts please reply to the comment with @db-staff this alerts the tech crew to delete the account. Your reply and the comment will be deleted within a couple of hours.
The recent patterns we have noticed are:
They add their comment as a reply to the first comment on the page so please be vigilant checking your notifications
They use a personal name rather than a business name for the account although recently they have gone for random names like oct27
Within a couple of minutes they post 7 identical comments across the seven most recent posts, usually with an ad and a link
They seem to post at similar times of the day and it is increasing in frequency; initially it seemed to be at the weekend, but this week it’s happened on most days.
Yesterday, they had a double-barrelled name post a couple of posts then deleted one of the names and posted the same add on other posts
Occasionally they copy and paste part of a beanie comment to try to blend in these are within older posts and usually in the middle of a thread
Sometimes they do a standalone comment as the most recent comments on a post
These accounts can be registered but the last few have been unregistered so appear a faint grey. The best option is to use the beanie tab to see the list of comments as they tend to post so close together you can usually see them all on the same page unless it’s a busy time and genuine beanies are posting too.
Please note when they reply to one of your comments the notification from the bot reply remains in your list even after the account and comment have been removed so when you click on it this leads to a random point on the post the comment was attached to rather than to their comment or their profile page.
