News bites: November 20, 2023

Park Bo-young, Choi Woo-shik

  • If the stars align, Park Bo-young (Daily Dose of Sunshine) and Choi Woo-shik (Our Beloved Summer) may be paired in a new series called Melo Movie, melting the coldest of hearts with their cutie patootie smiles. As the newest project by writer Lee Na-eun (Our Beloved Summer), the romance is currently at the casting stage and is aiming to begin production in 2024. [News]
  • Storing his scalpel away, Han Seok-kyu (Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 3) is now in talks to lead a new psychological thriller, MBC’s The Intimate Traitor (working title). With plans to start filming in March of next year, production is being led by PD Song Yeon-hwa (Wild Boar Hunting) and writer Han Ah-young, an Excellence Award winner at MBC’s 2021 script writing contest. • Speaking of thrillers, Jo Jin-woong (The Good Bad Mother) confirmed casting for the upcoming No Way Out, taking on the crime drama’s leading role. Jo is expected to begin filming this week, joining Yeom Jung-ah (Cleaning Up), Yoo Jae-myung (Song of the Bandits), Kim Mu-yeol (High Cookie), Lee Kwang-soo (The Killer’s Shopping List), and Taiwanese actor Greg Hsu (Someday or One Day). Han Ji-min, Lee Jun-hyuk

  • SBS announced that their new series Acquaintances (working title) has been slotted into the schedule, headlined by a CEO Han Ji-min (Behind Your Touch) and her Renaissance man secretary Lee Jun-hyuk (Vigilante). Yay! The office romance will be launching in 2024, with scripts penned by Kim Ji-eun and PD Ham Jun-ho (Payback, My Strange Hero) directing. [News1]
  • Also coming next year is tvN’s webtoon adaptation Jung-nyun, starring Kim Tae-ri (Revenant), Shin Ye-eun (The Secret Romantic Guesthouse), and Ra Mi-ran (Cold Blooded Intern) – in addition to Moon Sori (Race) in a special guest role. Culturing us with music and theatre from 1950s Korea, the period drama has PD Jung Ji-in (The Red Sleeve Cuff) at the helm with writing by Choi Hyo-bi (A Time Called You). [News1]
  • In the meantime, we’ll be stopping over in 1989 with Coupang Play’s Boyhood, which released new posters and a second teaser. Premiering later this week on November 24, we’ll be following the (epic?) journey of our bumpkin hero Im Shi-wan (Summer Strike) alongside Lee Sun-bin (Work Later, Drink Now 2), Lee Shi-woo (See You in My 19th Life), and Kang Hye-won (Seasons of Blossom).
