Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won lead tvN rom-com Queen of Tears
by tccolb
After being in production for what seems like forever, the promos have taken off at last for tvN’s upcoming Queen of Tears with stills from the rom-com’s first script reading, led by Kim Soo-hyun (One Ordinary Day) and Kim Ji-won (My Liberation Notes).
As the son of the village chief from the quaint Yongdu-ri, Baek Hyun-woo (Kim Soo-hyun) is our story’s Cinderella who has been married to his queen charming – Hong Hae-in (Kim Ji-won) – for three years and counting. To be fair, it’s been a while since Hyun-woo has been city-fied, having gone to a fancy law school and now working as the legal team lead at the Queens department store, where Hae-in is the absolute ruler CEO. But marriage, of course, is not a fairy tale happily-ever-after, and we follow our leads as they navigate new highs and lows.
With an impressively substantial cast lineup, we’ll also be exploring the family and chaebol business dynamics with Park Sung-hoon (The Kidnapping Day) playing the well-known investor Yoon Eun-sung. In the role of Hae-in’s younger brother, Kwak Dong-yeon (Gaus Electronics) is Hong Soo-chul and is lovingly married to Chun Da-hye – played by Lee Joo-bin (Love to Hate You).
At the head of the Queens Group, we have grandpa and chairman Kim Gab-soo (Today’s Webtoon), who lives with his girlfriend Lee Mi-sook (Perfect Marriage Revenge). Hae-in and Soo-chul’s parents are Jung Jin-young (LTNS) and Na Young-hee (Queen of Divorce), while Kim Jung-nan (Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938) plays their paternal aunt.
Down in Yongdu-ri, Hyun-woo’s dad Jeon Bae-soo (Daily Dose of Sunshine) looks after the village while his mom Hwang Young-hee (Daily Dose of Sunshine) runs a local supermarket. They live together with Hyun-woo’s older siblings, hyung Kim Do-hyun (Gyeongseong Creature) and noona Jang Yoon-ju (Money Heist Korea – Joint Economic Area).
Co-directed by PD Jang Young-woo (Bulgasal – Immortal Souls) and PD Kim Hee-won (Soundtrack #2, Little Women), with scripts penned by Park Ji-eun (Crash Landing on You), tvN’s Queen of Tears is slated to premiere in March.
