A comedian and his kids! Jerry Seinfeld and wife Jessica Seinfeld welcomed three children after tying the knot in 1999.
The duo became first-time parents in 2000 with the birth of their daughter, Sascha. They further expanded their brood with sons Julian and Shepherd, born in 2003 and 2005, respectively.
The Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee creator has long praised his children for being down-to-earth despite his A-list status. In a December 2012 interview with the New York Times, Jerry shared that his daughter Sascha dubbed the iPhone 5 a “mean-girl phone” and asked for a less expensive option. The New York native added that Julian once called him “spoiled” because of his Porsche collection.
The Seinfeld alum shared insight into his and Jessica’s parenting philosophy with Us Weekly in October 2019.
“We just try to build decent human beings. We’re not trying to beat them over the head that they have to give back. … The only way to really do it, we believe, is by doing it yourself and modeling it and hopefully they follow,” he explained.
The Emmy winner also provided words of wisdom he has passed on to his kids: “Don’t just think about yourself. You know, everybody is very caught in their own bubble. … Get out of your bubble, look around, see if you can be of some help, which of course everyone can.”
In addition to instilling a sense of selflessness in their kids, Jerry and Jessica are united in maintaining a “pretty relaxed” attitude toward their children dating.
“They have to figure it out on their own,” the Bee Movie star told Us in October 2018. The Food Swings author, for her part, chimed in: “We don’t overparent.”
While the married couple aren’t too hard on their kids, Jerry revealed that his offspring gave him grief after he refused a hug from Kesha at the David Lynch Foundation’s National Night of Laughter and Song in June 2017 — a moment that went viral.
“My kids are very tough on me on how I deal with the public,” the standup comedian told W at the time. “They never feel that I’m nice enough. But I try to explain to them that I don’t owe anybody anything. I gave them the show for free.”
When asked what other lessons his children have taught him over the years, Jerry replied, “that superheroes really mean as much as I thought they did when I was a kid.”
