News bites: October 15, 2023

  • Casting continues for the romance sageuk Hae-shi’s Shin-ru and the next to be offered the lead role is Ahn Bo-hyun (See You in My 19th Life), playing crown prince Lee Hyang (the future King Munjong). Set during the reign of his father, the great King Sejong, the adaptation is still in the planning stages with scripts by the original novelist Yoon Yi-soo (Moonlight Drawn by Clouds, the web novel). • Park Ji-bin (Blind) confirmed casting in a new youth timeslip called Love Cycle Diary, romancing rookie actress Hwang Ha-jung. Filming for the web drama has already been completed and is expected to be on our screens this coming November, releasing on both TVING and Wavve. [Sports Kyunghyang]
  • Park Se-wan (One Day Off) has been cast in a leading role for Not Very Strong But Charming Violent Crimes Unit (roughly translated), potentially joining Kim Dong-wook (My Perfect Stranger) who is still in talks. Also starring Seo Hyun-woo (Celebrity) and Park Ji-hwan (My Lovely Boxer), the crime comedy is aiming to start filming once casting has been finalized. [Star News]

  • Quickly following the first teaser, SBS’s My Demon released an extended version where we get a better glimpse (with dialogue!) at our contractually wedded pair. With Kim Yoo-jung (Lovers of the Red Sky) and Song Kang (Forecasting Love and Weather) at the center of the fantasy rom-com, hopefully they’ll get to do a little more than staring when the series releases on November 24. • The mood is tense on KBS’s The Goryeo-Khitan War as well – albeit, for very different reasons – and the latest teaser has our leads at the brink of battle. Standing at the warfront, we have Kim Dong-joon (More Than Friends), Choi Su-jong (My Only One), and Ji Seung-hyun (My Dearest) headlining the cast, as we await the sageuk’s premiere on November 11.
