Perpétua and Inácio get married. Bento Manuel gives Bento Gonçalves money as a wedding present. Anita refuses to retreat, wishing to save her uncle from the hands of the Imperials, but Garibaldi convinces her to accompany him. Mariana gets João Gutierrez to dance with her, much to Maria’s displeasure.
Perpétua refuses Bento Manuel’s money, and Caetana donates it to the Farroupilha army. Pedro and Caetano court Joana. Manuela arrives at the ranch escorted by General Mena Barreto, who guarantees he’s there on a peace mission. The girls surround Manuela, having missed her terribly.
Mena Barreto and Bento Gonçalves discuss the peace terms. Maria says that Manuela is dead for her. The peace terms offered by the Imperials cause a division of opinion among the Farroupilhas. Rosário assures Maria that she wants to return to the convent.
Chico Mascate tells Bento Gonçalves that many Imperial ships are approaching. Caetano sends Beata to seduce Pedro, but he refuses her. Inácio takes Perpétua home. Joana asks to speak privately with her stepmother. Rosário returns to the convent.
