Actress Shin Hye Sun shared her thoughts on the conclusion of Welcome to Samdal-ri.
The JTBC weekend drama Welcome to Samdal-ri concluded, scoring a staggering viewership of 12.39% (nationwide) and 13.08% (metropolitan).
In the drama, Shin Hye Sun played the role of Cho Sam Dal, a hotshot photographer who returns to her hometown after falling from the peak of her career overnight.
Shin Hye Sun, who not only entertained but also evoked empathy in viewers, shared her thoughts on the conclusion of the K-drama.
Below is the Q&A with Shin Hye Sun from Welcome to Samdal-ri.
Q: Now that Welcome to Samdal-ri concluded on January 21, what are your thoughts?
Looking back, time seems to have passed so quickly. It feels like it was just a short while ago that we had the final shoot, and now it’s already over, leaving only memories.
Q: The chemistry [of your character] with the characters, including Cho Yong Pil, Cho Jin Dal, Cho Hae Dal, and the Eagle Brothers Boo Sang Do, Wang Kyung Tae, and Cha Eun Woo, provided another layer of enjoyable viewing experience. How was it working with the actors Ji Chang Wook, Shin Dong Mi, Kang Mi Na, Kang Young Seok, Lee Jae Won, and Bae Myung Jin, who played each of these characters respectively?
I should ask if they were acting or not because everyone was so natural. Everyone was so energetic and enjoyable that being with them made me feel more energetic. The relationships between the characters were so close and comfortable, and despite the tendency to be reserved or keep a distance, everyone felt very comfortable from the first shoot. Thanks to everyone bringing cheerful vibes to the set, there were times when I laughed so much that I almost developed abs.
Q: Is there a memorable scene or line from Welcome to Samdal-ri?
The line where Sam Dal says, “I did it because I was frustrated,” in the scene where Yong Pil finds out she received a call from her ex-boyfriend is memorable. If I hadn’t kept my composure while saying that line, tears would have flowed. It was a scene where you could feel Sam Dal’s personality, situations, and subtle relationship with Yong Pil.
Q: How do you want Sam Dal’s story to progress after the last episode?
I hope she marries Yong Pil and lives a peaceful life, bickering and quickly reconciling like they have been doing all along, like saying, ‘They lived happily ever after’ at the end of a fairy tale.
Q: How will you remember Welcome to Samdal-ri?
When I first received the script for Welcome to Samdal-ri, it felt like a gift when I was mentally exhausted. So, I started the project with the goal of healing [myself] while playing Sam Dal. The set was always warm and enjoyable, just like the script. I think Welcome to Samdal-ri will be remembered as a work that allowed me to take a breath.
Q: Lastly, is there anything you would like to say to the fans who have watched Welcome to Samdal-ri and loved Cho Sam Dal?
Thank you so much for enjoying Welcome to Samdal-ri. Even if you’re running tirelessly and living fiercely, I hope you all find time to catch your breath. I wish you all good health and happiness always. Thank you.
