Living legacies! While many celebrities in Hollywood are grandparents, only a special few get to meet the fourth generation of their family.
Queen Elizabeth II was a great-grandmother of 12 before her death at age 96 in September 2022. Her Majesty, the longest reigning British monarch, not only spent significant time with her eight grandchildren and their kids, she also got to meet Prince William‘s son Prince George, who will inherit the throne after his father and grandfather.
While her grandchildren referred to her as “Granny” — or the queen — Elizabeth received a special nickname from George himself: “Gan-Gan.” Prince Harry, meanwhile, named daughter Lilibet, born in June 2021, in part after his beloved grandmother.
After Her Majesty’s passing, Princess Kate revealed that her and William’s youngest son, Prince Louis, shared a comforting thought in the wake of Elizabeth’s death.
“[Louis said,] ‘At least Grannie is with Great-Grandpa now,’” the Princess of Wales told a group of children while greeting mourners, referring to the April 2021 death of the queen’s husband, Prince Philip.
In addition to her great-grandkids through William and Harry — William and Kate are also parents of daughter Princess Charlotte, while Harry and Meghan Markle are also mom and dad of Archie — the queen had seven other great-grandchildren: Savannah Phillips and Isla Phillips (daughters of Princess Anne’s son Peter Phillips and wife Autumn Kelly), Mia, Lena and Lucas Tindall (children of Princess Anne’s daughter Zara Tindall and husband Mike Tindall), August Philip (son of Prince Andrew’s daughter Princess Eugenie and husband Jack Brooksbank) and Sienna (daughter of Prince Andrew’s daughter Princess Beatrice and husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi).
The world discovered Priscilla Presley was a great-grandma — and that Lisa Marie Presley was a grandmother — amid the January 2023 tragedy of the “Lights Out” singer’s death at age 54.
In her eulogy to her mom, Riley Keough wrote about her own daughter in the emotional speech, which was delivered by her husband, Ben Smith-Petersen, at her mother’s memorial service at Graceland. (Lisa Marie, who was Priscilla and Elvis Presley’s only child, died earlier that month after suffering cardiac arrest.)
“Thank you for showing me that love is the only thing that matters in this life. I hope I can love my daughter the way you loved me, the way you loved my brother and my sisters,” Smith-Petersen read at the service on behalf of his wife. “Thank you for giving me strength, my heart, my empathy, my courage, my sense of humor, my manners, my temper, my wildness, my tenacity. I’m a product of your heart.”
