Perpétua finds out she’s pregnant again. Rosário decides to return to the convent to see if she can meet again with Estevão. Bento Gonçalves challenges Onofre to a duel and wounds him. Onofre leave a good dowry for Joana before he dies. Rosário tells Madre Cecilia that she returned to the convent to find Estevão. Manuela cries when she learns that Garibaldi and Anita got married. Joaquim sees her crying and breaks off his engagement.Joaquim hears Joana’s declaration but says he can’t stay with her. Rosário finds Estevão. Maria tries to talk to Matias but can’t. Rosa tells Ana Joaquina that she and Joana are going to open a sewing shop in Pelotas.

Bento Gonçalves arrives at the ranch affirming that he’s never returning to government. Bento Manuel sees Bento Gonçalves being welcomed by Caetana and gets frustrated. Zé Pedra returns from the convent with Rosário’s body and explains that no one knows how she died. The Farroupilhas are attacked in a treacherous manner by the Imperials.

Marcelino, Terêncio, and Teixeira Nunes die. The peace treaty is signed. Perpétua gives birth to a girl, whom she names Tereza. Joaquim goes to meet Joana. João Gutierrez returns to Mariana. Antônia tells them she’s going to put the ranch in their names. Bento Gonçalves and his family return home.

Tina dies, much to Netto’s sadness. Anita perceives that Manuela still loves Garibaldi. Bento Manuel tells Onofre that Bento Gonçalves is going to meet with Madalena. Garibaldi assures Manuela that he’s never going to forget her and asks her to marry Joaquim. Anita and Garibaldi leave. Bento Gonçalves arrives at Antônia’s house and discovers that Madalena went to the ranch. Caetana asks Madalena what she wants with her husband.Joana becomes sad when she sees Joaquim and Manuela together. Madalena assures Caetana that her business with Bento Gonçalves isn’t personal.

Madalena and Bento Gonçalves seal the accord between Uruguay and Rio Grande to fight against Argentina. Bento Gonçalves convinces Caetana that there’s nothing between him and Madalena. Joaquim and Manuela announce their engagement. Garibaldi arrives in Uruguay with his family. Mariana has her baby, a boy named Matias. Maria doesn’t go to meet her grandson. The Baron of Caxias arrives in Rio Grande to reestablish peace. Bento Manuel turns into his ally.

Bento Gonçalves wound Bento Manuel in battle. Rosário explains to Manuela that part of her died with Estevão. Bento Gonçalves renounces the presidency and returns home. Manuela kisses Joaquim thinking about Garibaldi. Joana advises Joaquim not to go ahead with the marriage.

Joana tells Rosa that she’s not going to live with Onofre. Manuela assures Perpétua that there’s nothing wicked in her house. Bento Manuel tells Onofre that Bento Gonçalves has a lover in Uruguay named Madalena Aguilar and that she’s the one who takes care of the Republic’s business over there.

Crescêncio gives Barbara money before he dies but doesn’t forgive her. Rosário arrives at the ranch. The Farroupilha army starts to come apart. Bento Gonçalves orders João Gutierrez arrested when he finds out that Mariana is expecting his child. Anita’s baby faints in her arms.

Bento Manuel insinuates that Bento Gonçalves has a lover, and Caetana throws him out of her house. Madalena Aguilar shows up at Antônia’s house.

Manuela takes care of Bento Gonçalves, who’s getting weaker and weaker. Garibaldi finds Anita. Netto tells Bento Gonçalves that the attack by the Imperials proves that they don’t want peace. Rosário leaves the convent. Bento Gonçalves decides to transfer the capital of the Republic but he first has to repel a new attack from Moringue.

Rossetti is killed, much to Garibaldi and Barbara’s despair. Rosa tells Maria that she has to ask forgiveness to the man she loved for having aborted his child.

Manuela leaves for the ranch with Chico Mascate. Maria asks Zé Pedra to take her to Simão, her old lover

Caetana asks Antônia to help Mariana. Garibaldi thanks Manuela. Antônia orders Zé Pedra to break down the door to Mariana’s bedroom, and tells Maria that she’s going to take her to her house. Rosário begs Estevão to leave her in peace. Madre Cecilia suggests that Rosário spend some time at home before she decides if she really wants to become a nun.

Barbara announces that the peace proposal from the Imperials arrived. Joana tells Rosa that she’s happy that she’s not bitter like Maria. Rossetti likes the terms of the peace proposal, but Netto gets angry because they don’t include the abolition of slavery.

The Imperials attack the city where Anita is located, and she escapes with her child.

Barbara returns the money to Crescêncio. Rosário asks to stay at the convent. Bento Manuel observes Caetana from afar. The men reproach Bento Gonçalves for having refused set São José do Norte on fire. Maria asks Zefina for some herbs, and Viriata guesses that she wants to end Mariana’s pregnancy.

Anita tries to convince Garibaldi to leave Rio Grande, but he refuses. Rossetti decides to try to reach an accord with the Imperials. Caetana and Ana Joaquina don’t let Mariana prepare the infusion prepared by Maria. Anita goes into labor.

Caetana meets with Bento Manuel. Garibaldi asks Manuela to serve as midwife in Anita’s childbirth.

Perpétua almost faints when she learns that Inácio was injured. Damiana threatens Rosário, who takes ointments to Estevão. Mariana cries over Corte Real’s death. Manuela and Perpétua travel with Chico Mascate. Mariana is afraid of being left in a convent, but Maria tells her that they’re only going to visit Rosário. Bento Manuel meets with Mena Barreto. Rosário faints when Estevão says he was killed by Corte Real in an ambush to get back at her father.The soldiers walk in their torn uniforms, weary and hungry. The wagons with canons are dismantled and the Farroupilha Army loses its arms.

Anita asks Barbara to teach her how to write. Mariana escapes to meet with João Gutierrez, but Maria takes her home by the hair and despairs that her daughter is pregnant. Estevão guarantees Rosário that his love for her is stronger than death. Manuela gives Garibaldi a poncho as a gift. The army arrives in São José do Norte. Rosário asks Damiana to forgive her and swears to Estevão that she’s going to get him out of her heart without having to become a nun. Garibaldi and his men enter the city and open the gate for the troops. The fight is hard-fought in the city. Crescêncio says that the wharf is already taken.

João Gutierrez tries to convince Mariana to escape with him through the window, but Maria shoots him, without, however, wounding him. Bento Gonçalves and Garibaldi try to keep the soldiers from looting the houses.  The Imperials counterattack, invade the fort, and wound Garibaldi. Manuela takes care of Garibaldi. Bento Gonçalves orders a withdrawal so that he doesn’t have to kill more civilians. Maria shutters all the windows to Mariana’s bedroom, which makes her cry in desperation.

Bento Manuel asks for amnesty in exchange for the documents. Rosário assures her mother that Estevão is a phantom, and Maria is sure that her daughter is crazy.

Onofre and Crescêncio react badly when Bento Gonçalves tells them about the treaty. Madre Cecilia promises to take care of Rosário. Manuela suffers when she sees Anita pregnant and embracing Garibaldi.

Inácio is happy to learn that Perpétua is pregnant. Perpétua feels light contractions. Manuela and Anita come face to face.

Bento Gonçalves can’t decide whether to attack or not, which disheartens his troops. Inácio is injured in a battle. Manuela has the premonition that someone nearby is in danger, which despairs Perpétua. Barbara parts from Rossetti, telling him that nothing will assuage her guilt. Joaquim takes care of Inácio and assures Bento Gonçalves that he’ll endure.

Corte Real takes shelter in an ally’s ranch. Rosário insists that Estevão take her with him, but he says he can’t. Mariana gives herself to João Gutierrez. Bento Manuel buys documents from Anahy that she found next to a soldier’s body. Moringue sends the soldiers to search the ranch.

Chico Mascate suggests that Perpétua be advised of Inácio’s condition. Joaquim asks Chico Mascate to send Manuela and Perpétua to find him.

Rosário asks for Damiana’s forgiveness, who accuses her of pretense. Perpétua finds out she’s pregnant. Rossetti sees a Farroupilha General beating Barbara and discovers that he’s her father. The women congratulate Perpétua. The Farroupilhas unite their entire army.

Barbara confesses to Rossetti that she fell in love and that she slept with a priest, who committed suicide. The battle starts, but the Farroupilhas are forced to retreat. The officials start to question Bento Gonçalves’s courage.

Anita asks Joaquim to marry Manuela. Bento Gonçalves shows up at the ranch.
