Even two years after its release, True Beauty still continues to gain popularity among the international audience. As of February 11, the K-drama ranked 6th on the list of ‘TOP TV Shows on Netflix’ worldwide.
The show stars Moon Ga Young, Cha Eun Woo, Hwang In Youp, and Park Yoo Na in the lead roles.
True Beauty is a story about a high-school girl Lim Joo Gyung (Moon Ga Young), who is regarded as the goddess of beauty because of her stunning looks. But she holds a secret. Lim Joo Gyung gets her gorgeous looks because of the makeup skills that she acquired through online tutorials. In reality, she is considered unattractive and was also bullied in the past. But her secret is revealed to Lee Su Ho (Cha Eun Woo) – Joo Gyung’s classmate who has everything from looks to brains to wealth but also has a cold demeanor that results from a tragic incident in his past and his dysfunctional family. After discovering Joo Gyung’s secret, he gets involved in a tangled relationship with her.
In South Korea, the K-drama commenced with a rating of 3.57% and went on to achieve its highest viewership rating of 4.57%. The average rating of the entire show is 3.79%.
The rom-com is directed by Kim Sang Hyub (also the director of Extraordinary You and Melancholia). And Lee Shi Eun penned the screenplay of True Beauty.
The drama is adapted from the webtoon of the same name written and illustrated by Yaongyi.
