With the premiere of JTBC’s upcoming weekend drama Welcome to Samdalri nearing, fans are hardly able to contain their excitement. To add to the buzz, the production team released a preview of episode 1 of the K-drama, giving a glimpse into Cho Yong Pil (Ji Chang Wook) and Cho Sam Dal’s (Shin Hye Sun) history.
The teaser sparks curiosity as to why Cho Yong Pil — a talented weather forecaster at Jeju Island — rejects the offer from Seoul headquarters, and Sam Dal — a famed photographer in Seoul, who, despite her hardships, eventually nestled in the capital city — returns to her hometown, Samdalri.
Her dexterity and the praise she gets for her work are proof of her hard work and endurance. Sam Dal strived and never gave up to rise to the position at which she stands now because she never wanted to return to Jeju.
Whereas, Yong Pil never left Samdalri. Working as a forecaster at the Jeju Meteorological Agency, he is well known for his stubbornness for precise weather forecast reports. His dedication and skills make him unrivaled and get him constant offers from Seoul headquarters. But Yong Pil cherishes his spot at the Jeju branch. Or, that’s what he says.
However, his friend, Wang Gyeong Tae (Lee Jae Won), points out, “You’re not going because you might run into Cho Sam Dal in Seoul.”
Yong Pil and Sam Dal were born on the same day, with a gap of five minutes between their birth. From childhood through high school and college, they spent nearly their entire youth together and eventually entered a relationship.
However, Sam Dal broke up with Yong Pil and took off to Seoul to pursue her dreams. Eight years have elapsed since their communication ceased. But even now, Yong Pil seems to harbor lingering feelings, evident from a magazine cover featuring Sam Dal resting on his office desk.
With Sam Dal’s unexpected return to Jeju, their story is expected to resume after a break of eight years.
The production team of Welcome to Samdalri remarked, “After breaking up, Yong Pil and Sam Dal tried to maintain distance and not run into each other, but the thread of the relationship tied by grandma Samshin is quite strong.”
Welcome to Samdalri will premiere on December 2. The K-drama will be made available on Netflix. Watch the preview below.
