Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching (April 1, 2023)
by DB Staff
So, what are we all watching this week?
What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…
DaebakGrits
Call It Love: After setting this one aside for a little bit (too many dramas, not enough time), I finally binged and caught up, and OMG! Why is this story so good? It’s absolutely killing me, though, that Woo-joo hasn’t told Dong-jin about their connection through his mom, and I’m scared of what will happen when she does. I hope he handles the news well. Maybe he will actually be relieved that she fell in love with him in spite of his mother, which has to provide him with some sense of comfort after a history of having his mother drive away the people in his life. Meanwhile, I also wasn’t expecting to feel personally called out by this show, but I totally understood the awkwardness Hye-sung felt dining alone. For different reasons, of course, but why is solo dining so intimidating?
Taxi Driver 2: Last week’s cliffhanger has me all sorts of anxious, but I’m hoping our favorite taxi driver survived somehow. I honestly think I’m enjoying this season better than the first. Shin Jae-ha looks like such a puppy that having him be the undercover baddie elicits an unusual response. I keep hoping that his character will be redeemable, but all signs point to him being a cold-blooded villain with no saving qualities — aside from his adorable, unassuming face.
Divorce Attorney Shin: I’m probably the most excited about this drama each week, although I do find myself enjoying the bits about Sung-han’s past more than the legal cases. I want to know more about his time as a pianist.
The Heavenly Idol: Ehhh… Still a better romance than Kokdu.

Mr. Sunshine: Well, all of you were right. Those last few episodes utterly destroyed me. No spoilers, but when he said [REDACTED] before he stepped out onto [REDACTED], I could not stop spontaneously ugly-crying for a full hour. Every time I think about this show and try to describe it, I get stuck on just how emotional it made me. All I can do is recommend it wholeheartedly — in addition to recommending as many tissues as you can find!
Chicago Typewriter: So, there may be a historically-inflected theme to my watch list right now… I’m only one episode in, and it’s a little early to be forming impressions, but I could see myself getting invested! The premise is intriguing, and I’m eager to find out more about the historical side of the narrative. And, though the dialogue is a little clunky, I have it on good authority that this one improves as it goes on. Plus, cards on the table: I’m a fervent cat lover, but the dog-related chaos in Ep 1 is pretty hilarious.
