The Kidnapping Day
Finished. I was loving this show until Jayden entered the scene. This is something kdramas have done to me: I zone out and become detached when the villains have too much power and too much money. I need some kind of restrictions for my villains, be it money, society, family, anything, and some balance between the good and bad guys all through the story.
And to compensate for that they had too many good characters lol. I know it is silly to complain about this, but it began to feel ridiculous that everybody was inherently good and had the power to do good, even the 2 bad cops turned out good.
It is actually very interesting that I watched THE DEAL immediately after this one. Those were too powerful, too rich killers too. But the difference is that those were gangsters, fighting for turf. They were illegal companies from the beginning. Not prestigious investment companies just shooting people left and right, to get their hands on an unfinished product.
I don’t regret watching this show though. Jayden came to his deserts in the best of ways (I’m not much of a Kang Hanuel fan, but he was sizzling!), the story of Hye Eun’s lifelong manipulations was truly well written (even though they were insane to let her so near Ro Hee with cops outside of the estate instead of in the bushes right beside her), and the cops, the kidnapper, and the lawyer were all very sweet characters, even though I would have preferred them fewer in numbers lol. A kdrama fan always finds something to complain about, right? Too much of this, too little of that.
The Perfect Deal
Oooof this show. I don’t even know where to begin. Yoo Seung Ho was amazing. Yoo Soo Bin was equally amazing. The pacing of the show, the episodes length and number, the writing, the characterization, the camera work, ooof everything was spot-on.
The only weak link in the show was Kim Dong Hwi, which is completely understandable, but maybe he shouldn’t have been cast in such a big role alongside 2 powerhouses. If we were sure that he was an obsessive psychopath his acting was in the right direction. The problem was that we weren’t, and for a desperate youth at the end of his rope his acting was very lacking.
Nevertheless, I think it was a shrewd move not to include that trait in the show synopsis and the character description, because it lets the viewer to go into the show with the same mindset as Yoo Seung Ho’s character and it results in the best gut punches at the best moments.
Every single scene with YSH was a highlight, and many scenes with YSB. I keep wanting to add especially this or that scene they had together, but the scenes were all too good to pick just one.
All KDH scenes irritated me to the point of taking me out of the moment a few times, but at least we were not supposed to root for him.
SPOILER
The death of the neighbor was a shock but predictable. And it was fitting, though heartbreaking, that it…
