“To seaweed slap or to accept a piggyback ride?” that is the question — and 70% of you answered with a vote for the piggyback. The appeal of experiencing first-hand the trope we’ve all seen repeatedly in K-dramas was too tempting for most of our responding Beanies, and I can’t say that I blame them for picking a warm, strong back over cold, slimy seaweed. At best, the piggyback is as romantic in real life as in dramas, but for our more practical Beanies, it’s a way to alleviate foot pain or avoid injuring oneself if they have weak ankles like @kurama.
Based on the comments section, though, I think most of our Beanies are simply curious because they’ve never experienced a piggyback in adulthood. Is it actually romantic, or, like @britney, would we feel too self-conscious to enjoy the moment? And for those of us like @luckywargoddess, who are built larger than the average K-drama actress: what would the hulking, gym-obsessed oppa strong enough to lift us look like? Maybe @sunnysaturdays is better equipped to answer some of our questions since she is a rare “unicorn” (@aicaramba) who has been piggybacked several times.
Although the piggyback was a clear winner and several Beanies indicated that they were a bit squeamish about touching seaweed, 30% of voters were more than willing to do the dirty work for us. @bbstl and @elinor, for example, were queuing in line and eager to arm themselves with a fistful of seaweed to slap the Qing princess in My Dearest. That said, there’s always at least one Beanie who finds a loophole so that they can have the best of both words, and this time that Beanie would be @palaa: if your beef is with the evil mother-in-law character, then getting a piggyback ride from her son is the best way to tick her off. No seaweed needed.
