Perpétua explains to Manuela that she kissed Inácio without knowing he was married. Inácio gets embarrassed in Perpétua’s presence, which makes her feel guilty. Manuela receives a letter from Joaquim and sees that he still thinks he’s going to marry her.
Perpétua despairs when she finds out that Inácio and Tereza are coming for dinner at the ranch. Antônia reveals to Garibaldi that she doesn’t think Manuela is the woman of his destiny. Rosário waits for Estevão, but Luzia explains that he could be quite late.
Tereza rests in Perpétua’s bed and says that she wants to be her friend. Rosa hears the rumor that the ranch will be attacked. Terêncio sees the Imperials approaching. Zé Pedra warns Antônia and Garibaldi that they’ll be attacked. Garibaldi’s men fight. Garibaldi manages to injure the leader of the troops, and they withdraw.
Manuela meets with Garibaldi and is happy to see him looking well. Inácio asks to talk to Perpétua.
