News bites: April 29, 2023

Kim Jae-young

  • Kim Jae-young (Love in Contract) is becoming an aspiring filmmaker for the new healing drama I Will Travel for You (roughly translated). Based on Harada Maha’s bestselling Japanese novel, Kim joins Gong Seung-yeon (The First Responders) and Yoo Joon-sang (Alchemy of Souls) in the main lineup. Production is still in the planning stages and preparing to start filming soon. [News1]
  • Counting down to the premiere next week, tvN’s Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938 has released another barrage of stills. But this time, we do get a better look at our tiger god Ryu Kyung-soo (Glitch), together with beloved faces from the supporting cast. Also starring Lee Dong-wook (Bad and Crazy), Kim So-yeon (Penthouse 3), and Kim Bum (Ghost Doctor), the fantasy will be journeying us to the 1930s come May 6. [Sports Donga (1), 92)]

  • But watch out for whiplash because the week after will be a jump forward into the future with Netflix’s Black Knight. The sci-fi released its official trailer this week, unveiling more about their dark, dystopian world. The war begins on May 12 with Kim Woo-bin (Our Blues), Song Seung-heon (Voice 4), Kang Yoo-seok (Payback), and Esom (Taxi Driver) leading the factions. [Sports Chosun]
  • Back in present day, Disney+ continues their running theme of blue in the newest poster for Race, along with news that Jo Han-chul (Stealer: The Treasure Keeper) has been added to the cast. Starring Lee Yeon-hee (Welcome to Wedding Hell), Hong Jong-hyun (Stock Struck), Moon Sori (Queenmaker), and Yunho (Meloholic), the office drama will be launching on May 10. [Xports News (1), (2)]

  • Kim Kang-woo (Artificial City) is reviewing an offer for a lead role in Wonderful World (working title), potentially joining Kim Nam-joo (Misty) – who is also still in talks. With PD Lee Seung-young (Tracer) attached to direct, the suspense is hoping to have the two play a married couple seeking retribution after their son’s tragic death. [Star News]
  • Ending on a lighter note, ENA’s rom-com Oh! Young-shim released new stills, featuring leads Song Ha-yoon (Please Don’t Date Him) and Donghae (God’s Quiz 4). With the classic tropes of childhood first loves and a bickering friends-to-lovers romance, here’s hoping the story delivers on the cute and cotton candy fluff when the series premieres on May 15.
