News bites: July 18, 2023

  • The first poster is out for ENA’s Day of Kidnapping, featuring a handy (and pretty!) illustration that summarizes the story to come. Starring Yoon Kye-sang (Kiss Sixth Sense), Park Sung-hoon (Not Others), Kim Shin-rok (Shadow Detective 2), and child actor Yoo-na (Green Mothers’ Club), the thriller and black comedy is slated to premiere on September 13 in the Wednesday-Thursday slot. PD Park Yoo-young (A Model Family) is at the helm with scripts by screenwriter Kim Je-young (Cheese in the Trap, the film). [News1]
  • KBS released a new poster as well for the sports drama My Lovely Boxer and I really like the little details, with the folded crease lines and date stamp along the side. It all feels very warm and nostalgic, but worryingly bittersweet for our agent-athlete pair: Lee Sang-yub (Eve) and Kim So-hye (How to Buy a Friend). Taking over the Monday-Tuesday slot following Heartbeat, the series will be launching on August 21. [Sports Donga]

  • Kim Ji-eun (One Dollar Lawyer) and Park Solomon (a.k.a. Lomon) (Revenge of Others) have been confirmed for Branding in Sungsoo-dong, which is aiming for an early 2024 release on LG’s U+ Mobile TV. Directed by PD Jung Heon-soo (Unique Chef Moon, Twelve Nights), the body-swap office romance will be co-written by Choi Sun-mi and Jeon Sun-young. [Osen]
  • A fun new teaser has dropped for TVING’s Cold Blooded Intern and I am so ready for this secret evil mission between Ra Mi-ran (The Good Bad Mother) and Eom Ji-won (Little Women) to take over the world. Also Lee Jong-hyuk (Bad Prosecutor)! The comedy will be coming to our screens on August 11. [Osen]

  • Speaking of evil, Disney+’s K-superhero series Moving has come out with a bundle of new stills featuring the ensemble cast’s main trio: Ryu Seung-ryong (Kingdom), Han Hyo-joo (Happiness), and Jo In-sung (It’s Okay That’s Love). The action sci-fi releases next month on August 9. [News1, Xports News (1), (2)]
  • Also coming in August is ENA’s sequel for the black comedy New Recruit, with Kim Min-ho (Moonshine) and Nam Tae-woo (Youth of May) leading the returning cast from Season 1. Premiering on August 28 in the Monday-Tuesday slot, the first script reading stills also featured Kim Ji-suk (Kiss Sixth Sense) who is newly joining the second season. [News1]
