Anita assures Garibaldi that Manuela wants to see her dead, but he tells her that she’s their only option. Bento Manuel declares his love to Caetana, which irritates her and she sends him away. Manuela delivers Anita’s baby and then cries when she sees how happy Garibaldi is.
Caetana asks Antônia to help Mariana. Garibaldi thanks Manuela. Antônia orders Zé Pedra to break down the door to Mariana’s bedroom, and tells Maria that she’s going to take her to her house. Rosário begs Estevão to leave her in peace. Madre Cecilia suggests that Rosário spend some time at home before she decides if she really wants to become a nun.
Barbara announces that the peace proposal from the Imperials arrived. Joana tells Rosa that she’s happy that she’s not bitter like Maria. Rossetti likes the terms of the peace proposal, but Netto gets angry because they don’t include the abolition of slavery.
The Imperials attack the city where Anita is located, and she escapes with her child.
