Rossetti explains to Barbara that he’ll stay with Bento Gonçalves until the end. General Moringue searches for Anita because he wants to get back at her and Garibaldi. Bento Gonçalves’s allies don’t accept the peace terms. Garibaldi goes after Anita. Estevão assures Rosário that he won’t bother her any more but says he’ll continue to wait for her.
Manuela takes care of Bento Gonçalves, who’s getting weaker and weaker. Garibaldi finds Anita. Netto tells Bento Gonçalves that the attack by the Imperials proves that they don’t want peace. Rosário leaves the convent. Bento Gonçalves decides to transfer the capital of the Republic but he first has to repel a new attack from Moringue.
Rossetti is killed, much to Garibaldi and Barbara’s despair. Rosa tells Maria that she has to ask forgiveness to the man she loved for having aborted his child.
Manuela leaves for the ranch with Chico Mascate. Maria asks Zé Pedra to take her to Simão, her old lover
