Song Seung-heon reunites with his crew in Player 2

After driving off into the sunset over five years ago, the property-stealing swindlers of Player have returned in a new installment. Resuming his role as mastermind Kang Ha-ri is Song Seung-heon (Black Knight). He’s joined by his old team members Lee Shi-un (Bad Prosecutor) as hacker Im Byung-min and Tae Won-seok (My Demon) as muscle Do Jin-woong. While their former driver played by Krystal (Crazy Love) won’t be coming back, Oh Yeon-seo (Cafe Minamdang) and Jang Gyuri (Pyramid Game) will be joining the cast.

From the behind-the-scenes clip released by tvN, the sequel appears to boast bigger and flashier cons filled with fights, betrayals, and cash — lots of it. Oh Yeon-seo’s character Jung Soo-min approaches the team with an offer to work together for one year: they help her take out the trash, and in exchange, they keep the money that they earn. It seems like a prime opportunity for our swindlers to do what they do best, but good deals often come with a catch.

Joining the team as their new driver is Cha Jae-yi (Jang Gyuri) who seems to quickly adjust to the boys’ rapport. Though Ha-ri is initially against hiring the new recruit, the others cut off his protests and welcome her to the group.

The sequel also showcases some foreign locales with the team donning their best vacation wear and soaking in the sun in the middle of their usual swindling routine. Despite the action-packed sequences, the show seems to have retained its sense of fun, highlighting plenty of silly moments between the characters from impromptu dances to over-the-top aegyo.

Of course, no con is complete without its villains, and filling out the cast are Lee Jun-hyuk (The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract) and Ha Do-kwon (Marry My Husband) alongside Go Yoon (Beauty and Mr. Romantic), Im Seul-ong (Penthouse 3), and Tae In-ho (Big Bet).

Taking over the director’s seat is PD So Jae-hyun who has been the chief producer for dramas like Maestra: Strings of Truth and Castaway Diva. Scripts will also be penned by a new team consisting of writers Park Sang-moon (Eun-joo’s Room) and Choi Seul-gi (Overtime). tvN’s Player 2: Master of Swindlers will air sometime in June of this year.
